An Intimate Chicago Yacht Club Wedding

“We kept things small and wrote our own vows, Liz explains. “But we both agree that the best part was the few moments we had together on the bow of the yacht during our impromptu first dance. We’re each other’s best friend, so it was important to have a few minutes together, just the two of us.”

Photographing this Chicago Yacht Club wedding was such a perfect reminder that the best celebrations are the ones that feel entirely true to the couple. From the start, they built a day around what mattered most to them, time with their people, being present, and fully soaking in every moment by the lake.

I was so excited when Liz and Brian contacted me to photograph their wedding day. Watching two of the happiest people say I DO in Chicago on a boat? Yes please! These are the kinds of weddings I cherish the most. Where I can quietly step in and out, catching everything as it unfolds, from the smallest in-between glances to the big, joy-filled moments, and truly watch a couple experience one of the most important days of their lives.

As a photographer, my goal is always to document those candid, in-between moments while also stepping in with guidance when it’s needed. This day was the perfect balance of both. It was full of real, unscripted moments mixed with just enough direction to create timeless images they’ll always come back to.
