These two are so much fun!
And I’m not just talking about their wedding day. As soon as we met for their engagement pictures, I felt like we were old friends. We started in my old neighborhood (Lincoln Square) in Winnemac Park where they brought their dog Roxy to play. As soon as they showed up, I was already in love with Roxy. This is very evident in their pictures. 😉 Shortly after they invited me over to their house where they changed into their 2nd outfit and we started wedding detail talk. They were so kind and welcoming and made me feel like we were just hanging out like any other day. Throughout the afternoon, they were both up for anything, including all my quirky directions, and after their session, we celebrated with some old fashioneds. I knew their wedding would be a blast.
Abbie and Adam are two of the sweetest people I’ve met. They really do bring out the best in each other and it’s comforting being around them as a couple. They put each other at ease and you can tell that beneath all the love, they are truly friends.
Their wedding day was perfectly designed around who they are individually and as a couple. The beginning of the day was so relaxed and…one of my favorite words to say when directing…chill. 😉 The weather was absolutely PERFECT downtown for their river walk first look and their two person wedding party was the best group of people to photograph. We walked around the city and after made our way to Logan Square to celebrate at one of their favorite bourbon places (Longman and Eagle) before they officially said I DO at Greenhouse Loft.
Their details were personalized and colorful and the ceremony was beautiful and very sweet. Abbie was walked in by both of her grandmothers on each side, and they were greeted by Adam giving them the biggest smile. They laughed and danced and enjoyed the day THEY planned for themselves. That’s all you could ever want, and it was truly a joy to witness.
READ A LITTLE ABOUT ABBIE & ADAM:
Q. When did you meet? Where? It’s not very exciting, lol, we met at work. It was not love at first sight! I thought he was a little ditzy and he thought I was, well, not very nice. Obviously, that changed over the course of a couple of years and we became friends and then started dating and the rest is history. Our wedding website summed it up pretty well:
Abbie and Adam have known each other for a few years and gradually became friends before they started dating in February 2017. They went to dinners, movies, and some other cities, fell in love, had some laughs and some fights, drank some bourbon… unless you’re them it’s pretty boring really!
Q. When did you get engaged? Where? I literally had no idea what was happening. I was pretty tipsy and heading to the bar. Adam kept trying to get me to stop and I was having none of it. The giggly waiter knew what was happening long before I got a clue…
Can I quote our wedding website again?!
Fast forward to the good part, on a beach in Cancun in August 2018. After sitting in the sun all day and spending the evening drinking champagne, in front of a very giggly waiter, the ocean and a sign that spelled out “LOVE”, right between the O & the V, Adam asked a question. Abbie said yes. And then proceeded to ask him three times a day what he said until she finally memorized it about 5 days later. “You know you mean more than anything in the world to me and there is no one else I would rather spend my life with. Will you marry me?” Or something like that. For sure the last part.
Q. What was the most important aspect for you two when planning your wedding?
We wanted it to be fun and we wanted it to be inclusive. We didn’t want to overthink every detail, my style is a little eclectic and I knew from the start that we didn’t want to buck all the traditions but we didn’t want a cookie-cutter wedding.
Q. How did you start your wedding planning process?
Mostly our own research. We really didn’t initially want a summer wedding but we found GHL (GreenHouse Loft) and fell in love with the space, it was the perfect blend of what we both wanted. The rest sort of fell in line – the caterer was a recommendation from them and we hired the first photographer we met with all but on the spot. 😉
Q. What was your favorite thing about your wedding day?
I’ll tell you once I see the videos and the photos cause it was all a blur! I think though honestly, I loved the photos at Longman and Eagle! It was the last chance of the day to really kind of just stop, relax and just enjoy some moments. I was also really glad we wrote our own vows – both our readings to each other and we also wrote the vows that we both said. It was a little nerve-racking but so worth it. Oh, and the fact that we played Guns and Roses during our ceremony and Kate played Nirvana twice at dinner. Best DJ EVER!
Q. What was your first dance song?
We danced to You Make it Easy by Jason Aldean. I’m not a country fan and quite honestly, I don’t like Jason Aldean. I heard this song because for some reason Apple Music decided I would like it. I played it like 10 times in a row and knew it was it. Then I saw who it was lol.
Adam and his mom danced to What a Wonderful World.
Q. Where did you go for your honeymoon?
We’re going to Europe in October. We’re doing a couple of nights in Barcelona then a 12-day cruise through the Mediterranean.
Q. Can you give any advice for future couples planning a wedding?
When you start out, try not to make rash decisions. And when you inevitably do, make them cheap ones. We have some birdcages that I just HAD to have. They’re still in the box.
And on the day of, forget trying to make everyone happy and appreciate the heck out of the people made happy by seeing you happy.
THANK YOU FOR SHARING!
