Kim + Tom : Summer Wedding at Bloomingdale Golf Club

My first wedding of 2018, Kim & Tom, was so much fun! When I met these two for their SUNRISE ENGAGEMENT SESSION in Chicago, they were willing to do anything and go anywhere.  I mean, they woke up before the sun came out! Most people would be yawning and complaining, but not Kim & Tom.  They smiled and made each other laugh and before we knew it, the sun was up and we were having way too much fun.  Well, the wedding day was no different.  Both of them were so sweet and beyond excited to see each other to get their day started.

The entire day took place in once spot – WHICH IS AWESOME – at the beautiful Bloomingdale Golf Club.  It was hot and sunny BUT it wasn’t raining and for that, we were all thankful.  With a big and colorful wedding party, these two rode around on golf carts, enjoyed the sweetest ceremony (where they wrote their own vows), and then danced the night away with a dinosaur surprise….no joke. Scroll and see that one! LOL!

Kim & Tom, this day was the perfect kick off to my 9th wedding season.  Thank you so much for the most memorable and fun day! <3

A little about Kim & Tom & their wedding :

Q.  When did you meet?  Where?

A. We met in the summer of 2013. We both randomly joined a softball team after being asked by past acquaintances. We got to talking every week when the team would grab beers at a nearby bar after each game. After a few months of this Tommy finally got enough courage to ask Kim out to the fanciest place he could afford, Flat Top Grill.

Q.  When did you get engaged? Where?

A. We got engaged in November of 2016, the Saturday after Thanksgiving at Kim’s townhouse.

Q.  How did the proposal happen?

A. Kim uses this day every year to decorate the house for Christmas. Tommy knew this and hid the ring in one of the ornament boxes. There were two minor set backs that evening. Tommy apparently put the ring in the box of ” fancy” ornaments. While carrying down the fancy box from the attic, the box broke and the ornaments almost spilled everywhere. But because Tommy is smoother than a fresh jar of Skippy, he was able to recover. He then underestimated how long it would take Kim to put on the plain boring ornaments with meticulous, tedious, and disturbing detail. Tommy also underestimated Kim’s resolve to put these on first. After an hour and a half of the boring ornaments, Tommy got antsy and told Kim that he had to ask her a question about something he saw in the fancy box. He pulled the small box the ring was wrapped in with a bow on top from the larger fancy box and asked her what ornament this is. Kim then opened the box and immediately dropped the ring on the floor (NOT as smooth as a fresh jar of Skippy). From there Tommy said something wildly romantic that neither Tommy or Kim can remember because we both blacked out simultaneously from an adrenaline rush.

Q. What’s one thing about your spouse that made you realize you wanted to marry them?

Tommy – when I realized there was no one on this Earth who has shown me so much love and support and I realized all I wanted to do for the rest of my life is return the favor.

Kim – I’ve never met a more loyal person, and someone who could make my laugh every day so hard, that I cry. (Please see Tommy’s proposal response above, I laughed so hard!).

Q.  What was the most important aspect for you two when planning your wedding?

Tommy – being honest about what we wanted and communicating that with each other as best as we can.

Kim – I really wanted our wedding to represent us as a couple, so it was very important to personalize the ceremony by having our own vows, and having everyone very important to us involved in the wedding in someway. (Hence the large wedding party! We love them all!)

Q. How did you choose your wedding venue(s)?
A. We wanted a place that could provide an outdoor wedding ceremony with a reception immediately after and enough space for a good-sized dance floor. We loved the outdoor patio at the golf course that we could have the cocktail hour, and the grounds at the golf course is really pretty so we knew we could take our photos there as well. We really enjoyed that our ceremony photos and reception were all at the same location. It allowed for more time to enjoy the wedding and our guests, and it made the day much less stressful as we didn’t have to travel anywhere. Also, Karen from the Bloomingdale Golf Course was incredibly easy to work with and made the wedding planning process go very smoothly!

Q.  What was your favorite thing about your wedding day?

A.  We got to have the ceremony we wanted and envisioned and we loved the fact that 95% of our guests were on the dance floor. We also loved the surprise inflatable Dinosaurs! Too fun!

Q. What were the first dance songs?

A. Let’s Stay Together – Al Green (Newlyweds)
I Loved Her First – Heartland (Father Daughter)
My Wish – Rascal Flatts (Mother Son)

Q. Where did you (or plan to) go for your honeymoon?

A. Ireland and Prague. Tommy’s Irish, Kim is Czech so we referred to it as the homeland honeymoon. It was so fun! We could go back and do it again!

Q.  Can you give any advice for future couples planning a wedding?

A.  Be true to what you want, and don’t ask for to many opinions from other people. Its your day, make sure you enjoy it! Also, bring an extra pair of contacts with you in your emergency kit! You never know if your 97 year old grandpa is going to knock it out of your eye when he says goodbye!

Q. How did you hear about ME – your photographer?

A. You did 4 people’s weddings that I know! (Stacey Eberly, Ashley Demchuk, Ali Barnum and Megan Matejka) And I’m obsessed with the rain photo from Ali and Brian’s wedding! It’s stunning! (Thank you lovely! So fun getting to meet friends of friends of friends!)

Way too much fun with you guys all day! Thank you so so much for starting out my season with so many laughs. I loved being a part of it all!
