Before we get to their gorgeous day, read a little about Katie & Matt & their wedding :

Q.  When did you meet?  Where?

A. 6.5 years ago in January 2012 in college (Lewis University in Romeoville, IL). Both of us showed up late to a class we had together and took the two chairs in the back of the room. We were assigned to a group project together and Katie hasn’t been able to get rid of Matt since.

Q.  When did you get engaged? Where?

A. June 2016 at the Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool in Chicago, IL

Q.  How did the proposal happen?

A. I (Matt) surprised Katie after she thought we were going to meet our future best man/maid of honor for a day at the zoo. Maurice (best man) was flying in from out of town to visit which Katie was focused on and definitely helped the surprise be a successful one. A group of our close friends and family were hiding nearby before Matt got down on one knee to pop the question. Naturally, we all celebrated with pizza and beer afterward.

Q. What’s one thing about your spouse that made you realize you wanted to marry them?

Katie always makes me laugh and I know that I confide in her no matter what.

Matt has always been able to calm my nerves. I’m an anxious person and sort of a perfectionist. Matt has a way of talking me through situations so that they don’t seem as daunting.

Q.  What was the most important aspect for you two when planning your wedding?

We wanted our wedding to be a fun and memorable day not only for us, but for our closest friends and family, too. It was important to us that the day reflected our style as a couple and that it was as stress-free possible, which we believe we were able to do.

Q. How did you choose your wedding venue(s)?

A.Our ceremony venue was chosen (Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool) because it was where we got engaged and was an intimate setting for a small ceremony (not to mention a great venue for photos!)

Our reception venue was chosen (Peckish Pig in Evanston) due to the location, a sizable outdoor patio (with more spots for photo-ops), amazing food and our joint love of craft beer.

Q.  What was your favorite thing about your wedding day?

A.  1. Taking pictures with the bridal party throughout Lincoln Park. We had so much fun laughing with our friends throughout the photoshoot.
2. Best Man / Maid of Honor Toasts. They memorized them and they were amazing
3. The dance floor portion of the reception. We wish it lasted all night!

Q. What were the first dance songs?

A. First Dance – We Found Eachother in the Dark (City & Colour)
Father/Daughter – Hold My Hand (Hootie & the Blowfish)
Mother/Son – Hey Mama (Kanye West)

Q. Where did you (or plan to) go for your honeymoon?

A. We are leaving for a two week trip to Italy (Rome & the Amalfi Coast) on Friday August 31.

Q.  Can you give any advice for future couples planning a wedding?

A.  Don’t stress… Easier said than done but the day will be a fun and memorable one if you surround yourselves with loved ones (and give them plenty of alcohol).

Q. Any additional information on wedding details not listed?
A. We were so happy that both of our grandmothers were able to make it to our big day. Matt’s grandmother traveled from Minnesota (she is not able to travel often these days) and Katie’s grandmother, who was quite ill at the time, was able to attend the ceremony before she passed away three weeks later. (I’m so glad we got to get pictures with her!) <3
