Jenny + Danny : Chicago wedding at Greenhouse Loft

“You’ll never have ‘the perfect wedding’ but you can have the perfect wedding for you & your fiance so be true to yourself and do what you want to do; not what other people may desire. It is a day to celebrate you both surrounded by your loved ones. ~ Jenny & Danny

Get ready for a lo-OT of colorful pictures (AND MERLIN PICTURES) with the sweetest duo ever! Jenny and Danny ARE happiness!  When I met up with them for their engagement session by the Lake Shore, they came walking up so excited with their adorable little pup Merlin.  The sun-filled afternoon session that followed was such a joy.  These two epitomize what any photographer dreams of when photographing a couple in love.  Non-stop smiling, a perfect complement to one another, comfortable in their own skin, and completely trusting of me.  To say I enjoyed meeting them and photographing their wedding is an understatement.  It was an honor.

All week long, we checked the weather daily to see if the expected rain would show up on their day.  Much to my disappointment, it did.  But knowing these two, I wasn’t worried.  I walked into Jenny’s hotel room and was welcomed with music and LOTS of smiles.  The ladies were beyond excited and Jenny was glowing.  No bad weather of any kind could bring her spirits down…even with a leaking roof in the trolley!

We planned to go to our backup locations (I mean, that’s what they are there for!), and we met up with Danny outside a covered city building courtyard for their first look.  From there on, these two didn’t stop smiling.  They enjoyed every moment.  No really!  They had a blast at every photo location, partied with their friends on the trolley, were beyond thrilled with how their backup indoor ceremony turned out, cried and laughed during their intimate ceremony, laughed some more when Merlin (their sweet dog) stopped by for a visit, and danced ALL night long.

Don’t get me wrong, I would have of course been happy with sunshine all day, but it’s couples like Jenny and Danny that make a rainy wedding day feel like it was planned that way the whole time.  It was the best and I’m forever grateful to these two.

READ A LITTLE ABOUT JENNY & DANNY :

Q.  When did you meet? Where?   We met in August of 2008 @ Loras College in Dubuque, IA. Funny enough, we went to rival high schools (Jenny went to Loyola Academy, Danny went to St. Ignatius) and probably crossed paths at some point before college.

Q.  When did you get engaged? Where?   Danny and I went to his dad’s house on the 4th of July and Danny asked me if we could go closer to see the fireworks from the bridge over the Chicago River. He kept saying all these wonderful things about me & our relationship and I was thinking, okay love you too but fireworks hello! Then, he got down on one knee and popped the question! Of course, this was right before it poured which is one of the reasons we love rain; it always reminds us of our best memories.

Q.  How did you start your wedding planning process?   We started with referral and built our base from there. Greenhouse Loft had great recommendations and suggestions which was really helpful. Once we got a few referrals, we went with our gut and first impressions as we didn’t want to give ourselves too many options and get overwhelmed.

Q.  What was the most important aspect for you two when planning your wedding?  The most important was that both of our personalities would be shown on our wedding day. We really wanted everyone to enjoy themselves and have fun! We knew by getting down to earth, real and honest vendors, it would all fall into place.

Q.  How did you choose your wedding venue?  We toured just about every loft space in Chicago and when we walked into Greenhouse Loft, we had a strong feeling it’d be the one. Danny wanted more a rustic venue style while I wanted rustic with a touch of elegance and GHL really delivered on the combination of the two. The price was right, the location was ideal (not IN the city but still really close) and those windows! It is so beautiful. OH! Dog friendly was a HUGE perk. Do you see that little nugget, Merlin!? Yeah, he had to be part of our big day. 🙂

Q.  What was your favorite thing about your wedding day?     Honestly, everything. Danny keeps saying how it was the best 36 hours of his life; from our rehearsal dinner at Farmhouse (which was amazing!!) all the way to the late night snacks at the hotel with Jenny’s family, and everything in between. We couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful day and had so much fun during every moment. Obviously when Merlin showed up, we freaked out!!

Q. What was your first dance song?  Danny + his mom, Lynne, danced to My Wish by Rascal Flatts
Jenny + her dad, David, danced to My Girl by the Temptations
Jenny + Danny, first dance was Mean to Me by Brett Eldredge

Q. Where did you go for your honeymoon?   We went to Maui a week after the wedding and had the best time ever!!! It was the most relaxing, beautiful and best way to start off our marriage together.

Q. What is one thing about your spouse that many people might not know? Any funny, sweet, silly stories?

Danny writes: For those outside of myself and Jenny’s close friends she is more reserved and quite. It takes time and effort for her to open up and trust somebody, you really have to earn it, and it is entirely worth it. Jenny is kind, happy, goofy, exciting and spotlight seeker. Anyone of her friends can attest to her genuine character making her the best friend I have.

Jenny writes: Danny is one of the sweetest and kindest people I know. He treats Merlin and I as if we’re the only people in the world. He also makes me laugh harder than anyone I know. A lot of people don’t see the sweet side to him but he has manners; says please and thank you, holds doors for people, etc. which is not so common nowadays. I know he’d do anything for Merlin and I. I couldn’t ask for more!

Q.  Can you give any advice for future couples planning a wedding?  Stop stressing and have fun! Remember that it’s a day to celebrate your love with your significant other & everything else will fall into place. You’ll never have “the perfect wedding” but you can have the perfect wedding for you & your fiance so be true to yourself and do what you want to do; not what other people may desire. It is a day to celebrate you both surrounded by your loved ones. It should be magical no matter what happens.
