Grace + Allan : Wedding at Fishermen’s Inn in Elburn

That LAST wedding of 2019…

These two were BEYOND sweet when I met up with them and their adorable dog Hank (yes, Hank) for their engagement session the year before.  They were so very sweet and willing to listen to any direction I gave.  I knew immediately after leaving them that their wedding day would be an amazing way to end my 2019 season because of it.  Their entire day took place all in one location, at the gorgeous Fishermen’s Inn in Elburn, IL. We lucked out with a sunny Fall day in November, and were able to take all of their wedding party pictures outside before heading in for the ceremony.

Grace was literally glowing in her stunning gown from Martellens and immediately following the most heart-felt first look with her father, we brought Allan out to wait for Grace.  I loved the spot we chose because they were able to have a few moments alone AND we were able to get the coolest reflection pictures with the pond surrounding them.

Their day could not have been more perfect, ending the night with a spectacular sparkler send off.  I had such a blast with these two, their wedding party, and wonderful guests. <3

Q.  When did you meet? Where?

A – January of 2016… Grace’s hair salon.
G – I met him as a client while I was working

Q.  When did you get engaged? Where?

A -July 4th, 2018. We got engaged on the property we had just purchased in Hodgkins, IL. Our new house now sits on the location where we got engaged.
G – Such a cool personal moment. It was just the two of us. We then went to lunch where he’d planned for our parents to be there for us all to celebrate together

Q.  How did you start your wedding planning process?

A – Lots of online research. Reading reviews from people on different wedding websites helped a lot in determining where we wanted to get married.
G – Ditto

Q.  What was the most important aspect for you two when planning your wedding?

A -I think finding a wedding date at the venue we wanted was important and more difficult than expected. When we finally decided on a venue, we were surprised to see the limited availability over the next 12-15 months.
G – For me finding the right video:/photographer was one of the most important things. It’s the only tangible thing you really get to keep after it’s all over so I wanted to make sure who we worked with really got what we were looking for, and would be able to capture all our moments the way we wanted.

Q.  How did you choose your wedding venue?

A – Availability and location for a wedding ceremony were very important. We knew from the start that we wanted to get married at the same location as our reception. The location we ended up going with had a beautiful spot for the wedding ceremony and for the reception; it was a win-win!
G – I had a really specific vision and feel I wanted for the day, and I knew a traditional hall wasn’t it. Once we saw Fishermen’s Inn and started looking into the details they just offer the best options out of all the places we had seen, not to mention the place is gorgeous! And the staff is amazing as well!

Q.  What was your favorite thing about your wedding day?

A – The food!
G – mine was for sure our first look.  The day is crazy and goes by so quick so I’m really glad we got the chance to soak it all in just the two of us before hand.

Q. What was your first dance song?

B/G : Then by Brad Paisley
F/D : Butterfly Kisses
M/S : Close To You by The Carpenters

Q. Where did you go for your honeymoon?   Aruba!

Q. What is one thing about your spouse that many people might not know? Any funny, sweet, silly stories?

Allan is totally a planner in all things of life. Any time we go on a trip or to a special event, you ask him if he’s excited (because I’m overly excited about everything) his answer will ALWAYS be “I’ll be excited when we get there” so leading up to the wedding that’s been his answer, and on wedding day when I told him I was excited it was pretty cool to hear him say “I’m excited too”. We’d finally did it, and it all paid off!

Q.  Can you give any advice for future couples planning a wedding?

It’s cheesy but try to have fun and enjoy it. We’re lucky that we truly had a great experience from the beginning I think because we both had the mindset of trying to just have fun. If you can do that, then come wedding day you really won’t stress. No matter what the day is going to be amazing.  It will all come together and it will be worth every second of planning.

Q.  Anything additional you would like to add?

Our florist Wild Orchid was beyond amazing! She came in at the 11th hour for us after some unexpected hiccups and just blew us away, with not only her talent but her kindness and willingness to help us. She is an angel and is talented beyond words. I couldn’t have asked for better flowers and extra details that she created for us. A true visionary.

Now enjoy their beautiful story in pictures…

Grace and Allan,

Saying thank you for letting me be your photographer never seems like enough.  It’s truly an honor to be a part of such a special day and I never take your decision in choosing me lightly.  Your wedding was THE BEST way to end my 10th season.  HONESTLY! You two were full of so much joy all day.  You made my job that much more fun and I’ll gladly go running around you two to get that perfect shot any day.

I wish you both the most amazing future together, full of LOTS of love, of course laughter, and hopefully more photo sessions together soon.
