Emily + Emily : Fall Wedding at Emerson Creek Pottery & Tearoom

Get ready to smile…A LOT!

I had the honor of photographing my first ever same-sex wedding this Fall.  The best part about it was that I can now call these beauties my real friends.  When I met Emily & Emily (yep, same first name!) last year for coffee, we just sort of CLICKED (photography pun fun there). I felt like I had known them forever which made wedding talk that much more fun.  As I sat there and watched how they interacted with one another, I knew this would be a beautiful couple to photograph.  I immediately felt comfortable around them and saw that they were with each other.  Also, I started calling them Karnick and Beck to distinguish between them. (Side note while reading this post) 😉

Emily & Emily are the sweetest people individually.  Together, they are a couple that most strive all their lives to become.

We shot their engagement last October at the gorgeous St. James Farm.  I didn’t think anything could top that unbelievable sunset session…until this wedding!

From the many, MANY details that make up their awesome venue at Emerson Creek, to their intimate first look, and then to one of the most awe inspiring sunsets I’ve seen this year…Emily and Emily created a day that I’ll never forget.  I hope that with these images, neither will they. 😉

*A little about Emily & Emily*

Q.  When did you meet?  Where?

A.  We met officially when we both started working for the same police department in 2014. Although, we had gone to the same school for 4 years before that and had been unofficially introduced once before, we somehow never really knew each other until then.

Q.  When did you get engaged? Where?

A. We got engaged July 30th, 2015 at the Adler Planetarium. It was the coolest day ever.

Q.  How did the proposal happen?

A.  Kind of a long story, but the first time Emily (Rachel) and I (Emily Anne) worked together, we were working the midnight shift on October 20th, 2014. At around 3am she told me to come outside with her. We stood outside under the most beautiful sky full of stars. She told me that the sky was the best part about working midnights. I think this was the first time we both felt that spark. Fast forward to July 30th 2015. Emily (Rachel) planned a day downtown and told me we were going to the Adler Planetarium. When we got there, we looked around for a while and then she told me she bought tickets to see a show about the night sky. After the show was over and everyone was leaving, the lights turned back off and our song started playing. At this point I was very confused and a little scared that we were going to get locked in the theatre hahaha. Then a clock came up on the big screen and time rewound back to October 20th and the exact same night sky we stood under was projected across the whole theatre. Emily Rachel got down on one knee and asked me to be her wife. Seriously, such an amazing day.

Q. What was the most important aspect for you two when planning your wedding?

A.  Being a same-sex couple, we really wanted to make sure all of our vendors were comfortable being involved in a same-sex wedding. That was our number one priority. The first thing we looked at and booked was the venue. Once we had that booked, we immediately started researching photographers. At the end of the day, all that we will have left to look back on is the pictures! All of the vendors we chose were amazing and made the day perfect.

Q. What was your favorite thing about your wedding day?

A.  Emily Rachel: The first look and when Emily came walking down the isle to me.
Emily Anne: Our first dance! Finally we had a second to talk to each other haha.

Q.  What were the first dance songs?

A.  Newleywed’s – “Then” by Brad Paisley
Emily Anne and Dad – “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts
Emily Rachel and Dad – “I Hope You Dance” by Leann Womack

Q.  If you could do it all over again, what would you change, if anything?

A. Emily Anne: I would make sure I got a hot dog from the hot dog cart! Seriously so sad I didn’t get to try one.
Emily Rachel: and I would make sure I got to try some dessert! We also would both have taken more time for just the two of us to soak in the day.

Q. Where did you (or plan to) go for your honeymoon?

A. We went to Vegas!!!

Q. Can you give any advice for future couples planning a wedding?

A. Don’t leave anything until the last minute! And make sure you take a moment to really take everything in with your new spouse! It’s hard when everyone is pulling you in 20 different directions.
