Becca + Matt : A Christmas Engagement at Cantigny

I said it during, after, and still now.

These two high school sweethearts are the most adorable duo and one of the best couples I’ve had the pleasure of photographing. 🙂

It’s the first official day of winter, gloomy and chilly and all you want to do is stay in bed covered up and watch movies.

Not with these two!  I was smiling and laughing the entire 2 hours we were outside…yes, 2 hours! I had so much fun walking around Cantigny with them!

These first few pictures : only minutes in and after Becca told me she was nervous.

How cute are they??? Complete naturals. <3

I loved the fact that they had matching coats on.

They reminded me of a cool/hip New York couple. 😉

Matt did a wonderful job picking out Becca’s ring.

(He actually checked out her Pinterest page for reference!) 😉

Such a beautiful couple.

I cannot say that enough about you two. 🙂

They make a heart shape!

I love this walkway in Cantigny.

I always reference the Forest Gump driveway when we walk on it. 😉

A great thing about pictures right before Christmas?

Christmas decor of course!

(One of my favorite things to photograph : candid in-between moments.)

And then, there’s the tongue.  It was a bit chilly and windy out so smiling a lot can dry out your mouth…

…hence Becca’s tongue making it’s photography debut. lol! 😉

Hello automatic Christmas card pictures! <3

One of their Facebook SNEAK PEEK’s.

This is all them.  🙂  They are so sweet with one another.

Side note : If ever visiting Cantigny, go check out this reflection pond area.

For one, when the water is actually there, it’s gorgeous! (water was already removed for winter…bah!)

2nd, right at the bottom of the stairs is a spot where you can stand and yell and hear your echo. It’s pretty cool and so I made them try.

Love this picture!

My directions don’t always make sense to others.

They sound good in my head, but somehow get lost in translation…(side bar : great movie, check it out!)

However, if it makes you smile like this, I’m doing something right, right?

Let’s have a dance, shall we?

LOVE this picture!!!

They look so happy!

Becca, you are absolutely beautiful, I cannot wait to see you as a bride next June!

Winter, shminter.  Cantigny was still gorgeous all around.

A little cozy snuggle under this very large Christmas tree. 😉

The things I make my couples do…

I always promise it’s worth it for pictures though.

<3 <3 <3

(This was right around when Becca spotted something, looked over my shoulder and freaked me out.)

…keep scrolling…

Laughing at me for freaking out I suppose. lol! 😉

What did she see?  A bunch of turkey’s running.

No joke! Real turkey’s.

So naturally we followed them.

Who doesn’t want a picture with Turkey’s in the background?

Then we spotted what I called a real Christmas tree because it looked red and green.

Humor me, would ya? 😉

No direction needed for these two, they are just that much in love.

(Or it’s cold.  Either way, it works.)

Saw this cool spot…

…and then smelled it…

…quickly took the picture and left.

HA! Whatever those cabbage looking things were, they smelled horrible! lol!

Was it cabbage? HA!

But hey, great picture right? 😉

The beauty of a winter engagement…no one is around.

<3 <3 <3

Walking backwards and explaining the YouTube video of the photographer who did the same and fell in a fountain.

Then I quickly turned around and walked forward. HA! 😉

Becca & Matt, this is the video!

So terrible…but funny…but not really…sort of? :/

**Also, you two are so cute in this picture!**

<3 <3 <3

Another ‘Lost in Translation’ moment…or moments.

I could not stop laughing at how confused they were.

Best pictures ever! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Also, first ‘face hits palm‘ moment. LOL! Nice, Becca!

Being able to laugh at yourself is one of the best qualities to have.

We all agreed, this tank picture was a must.

And that is the end of that story.

I started to compare them to Harry Potter’s Hermione and Ron.

They kind of look similar right? 🙂

Then Becca told me that they loved Harry Potter.

Me : ‘Brilliant!  Let’s remake a picture of the two of them, do you have one?’

Long story short, the image Becca showed me (remake on the left) wasn’t actually Hermione and Ron, but nonetheless it’s still pretty!

HA! 😉

In the midst of all the bare winter grounds around us, we happened to stumble upon these white beauties. 🙂

And I again am probably making no sense, but they are smiling!

Remember that perfect engagement ring Matt picked just for Becca…

The other ring she is wearing is also from Matt (given when they were 17!).

AND, red nails, green heart, and engagement pictures days before Christmas?

Doesn’t get any more perfect than that.

Personally, I think you look a little like Natalie Portman, Becca! 🙂

The moment we quickly climb into a slay, take a picture, and jump out before anyone notices.

Merry Christmas!

Right at the end of their session, some of the Cantigny Christmas lights slowly started to turn on…

So pretty!!!

Becca, you are stunning and you have the most infectious smile. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Christmas tree pictures were a must!

Talk about the perfect gift under the tree!

One of my favorites.

Blow this up and frame it! Ok? Ok. 😉

I call this next group of pictures : ‘When the wind gets the best of you.’

Such a sweet couple and perfect ending to a perfect afternoon.

Becca & Matt –

From the moment we started walking around the park and talking about how you met in high school, got engaged around family, and now getting ready to take your engagement pictures, I knew this would be an easy task.  You two were all smiles from image #1 and made my job easy and fun! (Hey, I rhymed!) 😉

Thank you for such a fun first day of winter.  You truly did brighten up a gloomy day.

I can’t wait for your wedding in June!

Merry Christmas and see you in the New Year!
