Amy + Tyler : Chicago China Town Wedding

When Amy & Tyler told me they would be incorporating a traditional Chinese Tea ceremony to their wedding day, I knew it would be a unique wedding to document.  Then they mentioned dragons and I was hooked!  When I arrived and saw all of the details and colors, I got so excited.  The forecast for the day was hot and humid but it didn’t seem to matter for these two.  We had a blast all afternoon running around the city at the Garfield Park Conservatory, and then the Adler Planetarium for portraits.  We then ended in Chinatown with the hustle and bustle of Saturday crowds and Chinese restaurant smells.  Their day was quite a whirlwind and one I won’t soon forget.

Venue : Cai, ChinatownWe started the day at Amy’s mother’s house for the traditional tea ceremony surrounded by friends and family. It was so fun watching each family member step up to honor the couple with a gift and share traditional tea. When I mentioned the abundance of color, I wasn’t kidding.  The detail in Amy’s first dress (she actually wore 4 in total!) for the day and the jewelry she wore and was gifted was gorgeous!I loved their colors next to each other.  So bright and colorful!Dress #2 was a traditional white gown with gorgeous lace embellishments. And I couldn’t get enough of those gold shoes! <3 <3 <3 Our first stop was Garfield Park Conservatory for bride/groom portraits.  I love this indoor space filled from floor to ceiling with beautiful palm trees and unique plant life. Amy & Tyler had so much fun with their pictures.  I would give them basic direction, and they just did THEM. It was so much fun to photograph!Me : “Ok guys, you are going to walk towards me so I can get you in action.”

Amy & Tyler : “Ok, but can we walk our own way?”

Me : Do whatever you want!

The results :

In particular, I love that Tyler is eating Amy’s bouquet. LOL!Hot Summer days in the city call for lots of sunshine which means Liz is VERY happy when it comes to pictures!

I love a good sunburst shot!Tyler, you are awesome! Our last stop was Chinatown…Can you tell it was a busy Saturday? The wedding party joined us in Chinatown for pictures. 🙂Such a fun group! Before we knew it, it was time for the ceremony and reception.

I loved that Amy & Tyler decided to do all of their pictures prior to the ceremony.

We had all afternoon and got so many portraits – even more than what is on this blog! They had their ceremony and reception in the same spot – Cai Restaurant.

The food was so delicious and the wait staff was so nice! We got to take leftovers! After a few sweet speeches, Amy and Tyler did their first dance to ‘Best of My Love’ by The Emotions.  They later told me they messed it up but I didn’t notice.  It was so much fun to watch!Their dance floor was awesome!EVERYONE busted a move! And then the epic bouquet toss commenced…along with some of the best faces made my Amy. 😉Off the tiara goes again! A. We wanted a good portion of the details to be personally meaningful, from our selection of our wonderful friend to be our officiant to the Smith heirloom cake topper that adorned the cake.

Q. How did you choose your wedding venue(s)?
A. After deciding to host a traditional Chinese wedding, Cai was one of a handful of traditional banquet halls available in Chicago. They had the best layout and had good pricing.
